Black Dwarf is in the kitchen and the kettle is whistling.

Hailing from Seattle and hauling freight cars full of post-punk jangle and psychedelic haze, Black Dwarf combines punk energy, electronic textures, psychedelia, noise, humor and a broad assortment of musical debris into something distinctly its own.

Drawing inspiration from the adventurous edges of proto-punk, punk, post-punk, goth, industrial and electronic music, Black Dwarf carries traces of many artists in these genres who have become ingrained in us through much intense study and respect without trying to recreate any of them. We are also not above sprinkling in a little country, pop, funk, jazz, or blues on occasion because hey, we love it all, and love to have fun with it.

The philosophy is simple:

Take the music seriously, or take it ridiculously, but take it.

Black Dwarf formed in Seattle in 2026 and is currently rehearsing and recording material for its debut album, The Quest For Bono’s Dildo.

“Stranger” introduces Black Dwarf through post-punk tension, psychedelic atmosphere and electronic color, all wrapped around a dirty Western motif and lyrics about alienation in a world designed to stamp out individuality.

BLACK DWARF IS

Crystal Leavitt – Vocals

Seattle-area artist and vocalist whose visual-art background and distinctly creative sensibility are central to Black Dwarf’s identity.

David Amlaw – Guitar / Synth / Vocals

Musician, artist, game developer and former member of bands including The Earthlings, The Friendlies, Crispin’s Lover and Blood Drive.

Steve Amlaw – Drums

Longtime drummer with experience in bands in Boston and Los Angeles. Steve and David have played music together periodically since their teenage years and previously performed together in Crispin’s Lover.

SOUND

Black Dwarf draws from a wide range of influences rather than working within a fixed genre. We are influenced more by genuine passion and expression from any individual perspective than by popular trends or tastes. That said, we do have our favorites.

Expect post-punk guitars, electronic textures, psychedelic haze, punk energy and occasional excursions into whatever else happens to sound interesting fueled by genuine non-conformist creativity and attitude led by a charismatic and talented female vocalist.
