A dusty angel with straw wings unveiled the heavens
as a hole through which his god came tumbling through

Your eyes like neon through barred windows
And distant murmuring machines are somehow soothing
Time has come to wind them down in gentle sleep

No matter where you go you know you’ll always be a stranger

and every day the world outside gets just a little less familiar
but it’s all you’ve ever known

Another rumble in the clouds
The valley stretches out beneath your feet
The rain will come they say and fill up all the rivers
Washing memories into a deep blue sea

You said you wouldn’t be around
to see the spiritual revival
You tapped their lines and heard the echoes of a whisper
somewhere in a canyon carved out long ago

No matter where you go you know you’ll always be the stranger
